Shoreditch Cleaner is committed to providing professional cleaning services in a way that protects the health, safety and welfare of our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with cleaning activities in homes, offices and commercial premises.
We recognise that effective health and safety management is integral to delivering a reliable and high quality cleaning service. We aim to prevent accidents, work-related ill health and damage to property by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing proportionate control measures.
The management of Shoreditch Cleaner is responsible for ensuring that appropriate arrangements, resources and systems are in place to manage health and safety risks. This includes providing safe equipment and materials, ensuring that staff are trained and supervised, and monitoring performance to ensure continuous improvement.
Management will regularly review this policy, our procedures and our risk assessments to ensure they remain suitable and effective for the cleaning tasks we undertake. Where improvements are needed, changes will be implemented promptly and communicated clearly to all affected employees.
Every employee of Shoreditch Cleaner has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. Staff must follow all safety instructions, use equipment correctly and cooperate fully with the company on all health and safety matters.
Employees are expected to use personal protective equipment provided, report any hazards, near misses, accidents or equipment defects without delay, and not undertake any task for which they have not been trained or feel it is unsafe. Deliberate misuse of equipment or ignoring safety procedures will be treated seriously.
Before starting any new cleaning contract or task, appropriate risk assessments will be completed or reviewed. These assessments identify potential hazards such as slips and trips, working at height, manual handling, exposure to cleaning chemicals and use of electrical equipment.
Based on the findings of risk assessments, Shoreditch Cleaner will implement safe systems of work and provide clear instructions to staff. This may include specifying suitable cleaning methods, restricting access to certain areas, using warning signs and ensuring the correct selection and use of products and equipment for each environment.
Chemicals and cleaning agents used by Shoreditch Cleaner will be selected with regard to their effectiveness and their potential impact on health and the environment. Safety information supplied by manufacturers will be reviewed to ensure appropriate controls are in place.
Employees will receive training on the safe use, dilution, storage and disposal of cleaning products. Chemicals will be kept in their original containers with labels intact and stored securely when not in use. Staff must never mix products unless explicitly instructed by the manufacturer and company guidance, and must ensure adequate ventilation when using stronger agents.
All equipment used for cleaning, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, extension poles and other tools, will be maintained in safe working condition. Faulty or damaged equipment must be removed from use immediately and reported to management.
When using electrical equipment, staff must visually check cables, plugs and casings before use and avoid running leads across walkways where they could cause trips. Equipment should be switched off and unplugged before cleaning, adjusting or moving it. Only properly trained personnel may use specialist machinery.
Cleaning work can involve lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling equipment and materials. Shoreditch Cleaner will minimise manual handling risks by providing suitable tools, trolleys and methods that reduce strain on the body.
Employees will be trained in safe lifting techniques, correct posture and how to organise their work to avoid unnecessary repetitive movements. Heavy or awkward loads should be handled by more than one person where appropriate, and staff are encouraged to speak up if they believe a task cannot be carried out safely.
When working in client homes, offices or commercial spaces, employees must respect any local site rules, fire safety procedures and security requirements in addition to Shoreditch Cleaner policies. Staff must keep work areas as tidy as possible, avoid blocking fire exits and ensure that signs are used where floors are wet or cleaning is in progress.
Particular care will be taken when working in occupied areas to prevent slips, trips and falls, to secure equipment when not in use and to store cleaning materials safely away from children, pets and visitors.
Where risks cannot be eliminated, Shoreditch Cleaner will provide suitable personal protective equipment such as gloves, eye protection, masks or protective clothing, depending on the task. Employees must use this equipment as instructed and look after it properly.
PPE that is damaged, worn or no longer fit for purpose must be reported so that it can be replaced. Staff should never share items of personal protective equipment that are intended for individual use.
All employees will receive appropriate health and safety induction training when they start work with Shoreditch Cleaner, as well as task-specific training relevant to the cleaning services they provide. Refresher training will be provided when procedures change or when new equipment or products are introduced.
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring that safe practices are followed and that employees understand and apply their training. Additional guidance will be given whenever new risks are identified or where performance indicates a need for further support.
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported as soon as possible. Shoreditch Cleaner will investigate these events to identify root causes and implement appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Feedback from employees and clients about safety concerns is encouraged and will be taken seriously. This policy and our related procedures will be reviewed regularly so that our health and safety management continues to support safe, efficient and high quality cleaning services.
